In an effort to boost the tourism sector in Cambodia, the Ministry of Information (MoI) and the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) have made new pacts to market the country’s tourism prospects and sustained growth. This joint effort, made possible owing to a recent meeting, is aimed at marketing Cambodia’s tourism and travel attractions while pledging to develop tourism in a responsible and sustainable manner to allow future generations to enjoy these attractions.

This commitment was made by Tep Asnarith, Undersecretary of State and spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, while discussions to promote Cambodia’s tourism sector were in progress. Both ministries and Tep Asnarith are of the view that the benefits of Cambodia’s rich cultural and natural resources have to be incorporated into tourism through responsible and sustainable practices.

The Green Season Tourism Campaign: Promoting Sustainable Travel

The Green Season Tourism Campaign serves as a key initiative in this collaborative effort, focused on promoting sustainable tourism during the less-visited green season. The campaign aims to attract travelers to Cambodia’s natural landscapes, encouraging visits during off-peak seasons to reduce overcrowding and spread the economic benefits of tourism throughout the year. By promoting destinations in alignment with Cambodia’s Royal Government’s action plan, the ministries hope to create a balanced tourism model that nurtures both the environment and local economies.

Asnarith emphasized the importance of disseminating accurate, reliable, and comprehensive information to achieve the goal of sustainable tourism. He pointed out that Cambodia’s media strategy plays a critical role in shaping how tourists perceive the country and the environmentally-conscious travel options available to them. Both traditional and modern media will continue to focus on promoting eco-friendly resorts and attractions that are committed to conservation and sustainable development.

Cambodia’s Media Strategy: Leveraging Digital Platforms for Sustainable Growth

In 2025, national media, including National Radio and National Television of Cambodia, produced and broadcast over 3,000 tourism-related pieces of content aimed at showcasing Cambodia’s diverse and sustainable tourism offerings. These efforts were enhanced through social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter). By engaging with both local and international audiences, the ministries are able to highlight Cambodia’s eco-tourism attractions, such as protected national parks, wildlife reserves, and cultural heritage sites that rely on sustainable practices to preserve their natural beauty and cultural significance.

These platforms also emphasize green tourism initiatives that help preserve Cambodia’s biodiversity and natural landscapes, supporting long-term sustainability. Through digital media, travelers are introduced to a new kind of tourism — one that respects local communities, minimizes environmental footprints, and ensures that tourism becomes a tool for economic and cultural resilience.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Tourism also extends to the local level, where information departments in all 25 capitals and provinces work closely with tourism departments and the private sector to highlight Cambodia’s sustainable travel options.
