City poised for literary rendezvous at Sahitya Park

Lucknow: Visitors will soon see the city’s rich literary history in a park, as UP govt approved development of ‘Sahitya Park’ in Lucknow and a site was identified in CG City.Spanning 15 acres, the park will highlight Indian literatureand serve as a cultural hub for visitors. A comprehensive centre dedicated to literature, Sahitya Park will feature statues and biographies of prominent authors from Lucknow and other parts of India.‘Sahitya Path’ will take visitors through a curated literary journey, displaying important work and biographical details of famous Hindi and regional language writers.The park will include a modern library designed to serve students, researchers and literature enthusiasts with an exhaustive collection of books in various Indian languages and a dedicated section for children’s literature.Moreover, an open-air theatre will host ‘kavi sammelans’ ‘mushairas’, drama performances and storytelling sessions. The park will also feature digital gallery and audio-visual centre, aimed particularly at engaging children and youth. Visitors will be able to interact with digital displays to read, listen to and learn about work of known litterateurs. This technology-driven approach is designed to attract younger generations and foster a deeper interest in literature.Sahitya Park will also organise workshops focused on creative writing, poetry, painting and theatre, providing a platform for emerging artists and writers, especially children and young adults. Officials from Lucknow Municipal Corporation and Lucknow Development Authority have been directed to allocate necessary land for the project.Initialsly, the park was planned for Vijay Khand, Gomtinagar, but the location was shifted to CG City in view of better land availability and accessibility. Construction and design services (CDS) unit of jal nigam is entrusted with construction of the park. According to LMC officials, detailed project report is being prepared and will be submitted soon.An LDA official said land had been identified in CG City and would be handed over to the construction agency for further development. Once completed, Sahitya Park is expected to add a new cultural dimension to Lucknow, strengthening its identity as a city of literary heritage and becoming a significant tourist destination. The project aligns with govt’s broader vision to promote cultural tourism and preserve India’s literary traditions in urban spaces, reflecting Lucknow’s historical importance as a centre for language and literature.
